The conceptual tail. Every row sits at the stage where it was born. A later named result plays exactly one of four roles, and none of them is a premise:
- corroborates: it agrees afterward.
- answers: it names a problem the floor dissolves.
- unit: it is a definition or a measurement convention.
- instrument: it is a tool that checks.
The chain rests on two premises, the Root Axiom and P1, both elementary and both ancient.

The chain, with grades. The step from count to heat is theorem-conditional on P1.
- The Ground gives the sign, ΔE > 0. This is premise grade.
- The census gives the Second Law in counting form. This is a theorem.
- Additivity forces the logarithm, and the unit is one choice. This is a theorem.
- Pigeonhole and P1 force the lost bit to be exported. This is a theorem, conditional on P1.
- The two-point fibre makes it one bit, at the same price toward either value (
price_symmetric). This is a theorem. - The definition of T prices the bit at k_B T ln 2 (
count_to_heat). This is a theorem, conditional on P1; the constants are units.

Landauer and the Second Law are derived, not borrowed. The chain runs as follows:
- The Ground gives the sign: every act has ΔE > 0.
- The arrow gives irreversibility:
cannot_reverse. - The conservation census C × F = v³ gives the Second Law in counting form: content lost to the cut reappears as freedom.
- The Witness fibre has two points, which gives ln 2.
- k_B and T enter only as units (SI 2019, and dQ = T·dS).
Landauer's inequality is the output, at the Root Axiom's grade. Its content is the thermal price of one Witness bit.
--------
What each section proves:
- I. Conservation (
census_conservation). For any map, the fibres over the distinct images sum to the whole. What a cut takes from content reappears as freedom. - II. Uniform fibres (
census_uniform). Where every fibre has the same size, C × F = N. - III. The tower (
census_tower). Cutting a of n coordinates over v values gives content v^(n−a), every fibre v^a, and product v^n. This holds for all v, n, a. The thesis had executed only v = 2 to 5 at n = 3. - IV. The bit (
bit_moves_to_freedom). With the whole fixed, halving the content doubles the freedom exactly. This is the Second Law in counting form, and it comes from the census alone. - V. The direction (
freedom_never_shrinks). A further cut never shrinks a fibre, so freedom does not decrease along the arrow. - VI. Irreversibility (
merge_irreversible). A map that merges two states has no left inverse. - VII. Symmetric price (
price_symmetric). Erasing toward either value merges the same two states, so assent and denial pay alike.
